Welcome to Year 2

Year 2 is a very exciting year as the children continue to grow in confidence, independence and responsibility. Throughout the year, we build on all the skills and knowledge developed in Key Stage 1 while preparing the children for the increased expectations of Key Stage 2.

In Year 2, we strive to be hardworking, resilient and enthusiastic learners who always try their best. We encourage the children to take pride in their work, show kindness to others and live out our school motto, "May Christ Be Seen In Us," in everything they do. Through our learning, friendships and faith, we aim to be positive role models within our school community.

Our class saint is St Teresa of Ávila, whose faith, determination and love of prayer inspire us throughout the year. We learn about her life and use her example to help us grow spiritually and support one another as members of God's family.

Children are encouraged to become increasingly independent learners, taking responsibility for their work, organisation and behaviour. We celebrate effort as well as achievement and support one another to overcome challenges and reach our full potential. We want every child to feel happy, safe and successful as they continue their learning journey through Year 2.

Things to Remember

  • PE is on Wednesday. Children should come to school wearing their full PE kit, including suitable footwear.
  • Spellings are sent home each week and practised through Spelling Shed. Regular practice at home helps children to build confidence and improve their spelling skills.
  • Reading books and reading records should be returned to school weekly so that books can be changed and children can continue to access a range of appropriate texts.

How Can You Help at Home?

Regular reading remains one of the most important ways to support your child. Listening to them read, sharing stories together and discussing books all help to develop confidence, fluency and a love of reading.

Practising weekly spellings on Spelling Shed, encouraging opportunities to write at home and helping children to recall key maths facts, including number bonds and times tables, will greatly support their learning and progress. Regular practice of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables will help children build confidence and develop strong mathematical foundations.

We look forward to a fantastic year of learning, growth and achievement in Year 2 and thank you for your continued support.
