Year 5 – Mrs Sparkes and Miss Ogston
Welcome to the Year 5 Class page! Year 5 marks the beginning of UKS2, giving pupils increased opportunities to undertake additional responsibilities in our school community. There is so much to look forward to this year including swimming lessons, our Christmas pantomime and Year 5’s Stewardship project!
Our Year 5 Class Saint is St. Francis of Assisi. At the beginning of the school year, we will learn about our Class Saint and his patronages. As we move on throughout the year, our understanding of our Saint deepens. We will discuss and reflect upon Saint Francis’ life and work, and develop an appreciation of how Saint Francis can inspire and guide us.
Class information
PE
In Year 5, we have our PE lessons on Thursdays. Children should come to school wearing their full PE kit. Long hair must be tied in a bobble and children should bring a water bottle to school.
Reading
In Year 5, we promote reading for pleasure and aim to offer our children a wide range of exciting children’s literature. It is essential that children read at home as regular reading can have a significant impact on children’s learning and confidence across the curriculum. This year, children will receive books to read at their assessed reading level from school for the week. These books will be changed every Friday. Although your child may read independently, please continue to sign their home reading record.
Homework
Our children are set weekly homework. This work will be recorded in their homework book or on Purple Mash. Your child can find their homework on Purple Mash in the ‘2 Do’ section. If children are unable to access Purple Mash, a paper copy can be provided.
Additionally, children in Year 5 are set weekly spellings on Spelling Shed. To support your children, please encourage them to practise their spelling list before their weekly test on Friday.
Your child’s log in details for Purple Mash and Microsoft Teams are available in their homework book. Their Spelling Shed log in information can be found inside their spelling book.
