Last week, our Year 6 pupils from St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School in Fairfield set off on an exciting two‑day residential at the Youth Village - and the buzz of excitement was clear from the moment they climbed onto the coach! For many children, it was their first experience staying away with classmates, and they embraced every moment with confidence and enthusiasm.

Settling In and Getting Started

Once the group arrived, unpacked and settled into their rooms, the activities began straight away. The Youth Village team led a variety of engaging sessions designed to build teamwork, problem‑solving and reflection. Whether tackling group challenges, taking part in outdoor games, or sharing thoughtful ideas in small groups, the children threw themselves into each task with maturity and positivity.

Growing in Confidence

A standout feature of the trip was seeing our pupils push themselves out of their comfort zones. Many found the confidence to try new things, speak up in discussions and encourage one another. Staff were especially proud of the kindness the children showed, making sure everyone felt included and supported.

Shared Meals and Evening Fun

Mealtimes were full of chatter, laughter and stories as children compared their favourite activities from the day. In the evenings, everyone came together for games and a quiet time of reflection before settling down for the night - a lovely way to end each busy, fun‑filled day.

A Trip to Remember

By the time the coach rolled back into school, the children were tired but full of smiles and stories. The experience helped them grow in independence, strengthen friendships and build memories that will stay with them as they prepare for their next big step into secondary school.

A huge well done to Year 6 - you represented St Patrick’s beautifully, and we are so proud of everything you achieved!
